Social Media Trends – The Boom of Mobile Connectivity

Social Media Trends – The Boom of Mobile Connectivity (DMN 9/2/13)

In just 3 years, Americans have doubled their time online, mostly by using mobile platforms (tablets and smartphones.) Almost 2/3 of the time spent on social networking sites is through mobile platforms.

in 2010, 81 billion minutes were spent online through mobile platforms compared to nearly 500 billion minutes spent online in 2013. Mobile platforms have now passed computers (desktops and laptops) as the leading devices to access the internet.

Regarding Social Media, Facebook is by far the most popular social networking site in the US accounting for 5 out of every 6 minutes spent on a social networking site. 90% of Facebook users are in the 19 and older age group – typically the “consumers” that many businesses seek.

Lessons here? If you are a business looking to develop an online strategy, develop both mobile and computer friendly tools and facebook should be a major part of your social networking efforts.
